Rebecca Gray
Welcome to Rebecca Gray Millinery – where headwear becomes theatre.
Born from a deep love of storytelling, performance, and the art of making, my designs are anything but ordinary. I create bold, sculptural hats that blur the line between costume and couture. Headwear that moves, surprises, and becomes part of a performance in its own right. Each piece is infused with a sense of drama, magic, and play. Whether it’s a top hat with mechanical movement or a bespoke design that whispers of dark fairytales and circus wonder.
An award-winning milliner based in South East London, my studio crafts hats for individuals, performers, and those who embrace the extraordinary. Since 2022, my work has adorned the talented performers of the renowned Giffords Circus, and I’m thrilled to continue this collaboration for their 2025 production. This partnership is a key part of my creative journey, blending artistry and innovation while honouring the traditional craftsmanship of circus artistry.
Building on the foundations set in my HNC in Millinery and Design (2021), where my final collection was inspired by the circus, it felt only natural to continue exploring this theme. I joined the Giffords family and ran away with the circus! The vibrant energy and playful atmosphere of this world aligns perfectly with my vision. Allowing me to create pieces that capture the spectacle, movement, and theatricality at the heart of the circus.
With a BA Honours degree in Theatre, Film, and TV (1997), and a background in acting, singing, art, and theatre in education, I’ve always been immersed in the world of performance. This foundation shapes my millinery work, where each hat tells a story, creating character and spectacle. After formal millinery training at Kensington & Chelsea (Morley College), I was honoured to receive The Worshipful Company of Feltmakers Design Award in 2021, marking the beginning of my professional journey into the world of millinery.
Beyond crafting headwear, I’m passionate about education and collaboration, exploring how different disciplines can intersect through workshops, storytelling, and engagement. I aim to push the boundaries of millinery, making it more tactile, interactive, and immersive. I’m excited to expand my work with performers in music, film, theatre, and TV, while continuing to create custom pieces for individuals seeking unique, personal headwear that reflects their character and style.
